Timber Flooring Restoration

Sanding, polishing and restoration of timber floors

As one of the oldest floor sanding businesses in Bendigo, we are the local experts. We have extensive experience sanding, polishing, restoring and recoating floors of all kinds. Particularly with so many heritage homes and buildings in the Bendigo area, it's important to take great care in restoring floors to the former glory. Artcraft Floors have the experience to complete the job to a very high standard.

What to expect

When you have your timber floors restored with Artcraft Floors, you can expect high quality sanding and coating of your timber floors. Your new finish will not only look fantastic, but it will last you for many years, provided it is properly maintained.

We also make every effort to remove any imperfections in the floors and provide you with a smooth and clean flooring surface. We ensure that visible nails are punched and all nail holes and other minor gaps are filled using a filler that is appropriately coloured to the floor.

Some practical difficulties

When some of the timber boards need to be replaced, you will notice some variation in both the colour and the grain of the new boards against the old boards. While we make every effort to ensure any variations are minimal, it's not possible to elimination this variation completely.

We also avoid filling the gaps between floor boards, so these will still appear after the restoration is complete. This is because the boards typically shrink and expand over time, particularly in different temperatures and in different humidities. Timber is a completely natural product, and so the floor boards absorb and release moisture over time to stay in balance with its environment. By leaving the gaps unfilled, this provides the boards with the space they need to expand, without damaging the boards.

Some caring tips

Like all quality products, a natural timber floor will last a long time if it is cared for and properly maintained. There are a few things you can do to help prolong the life of your timber floor. Regular cleaning is important and helps remove any dirt, sand or grit from the boards. It's also important to avoid letting the boards get exposed to too much water, so wipe up any liquid spills quickly and when mopping the floors, make sure the mop is not too wet or dripping.

Periodic Recoating

Recoating your timber floor periodically will help prolong its life. If you avoid recoating your floor for too long, the timber will wear quicker and there's a greater chance that your floors will need to be sanded back, increasing the cost to you and decreasing the useful life of your boards. How often you should recoat your boards depends on the timber, the type of finish used and the frequency of traffic on the floor. If you're in doubt, give us a call and ask for an inspection of your floors.
